Marines Ordered To Disarm Before Panetta Speech Because “Somebody Got Itchy”
There are two problems here.First, this quote from the article relative to the man who gave the order to disarm, Maj. Gen. Mark Gurganus:
He said he had given the order because the two dozen Afghan soldiers also there were unarmed and he did not want to treat them differently.This just doesn't sit well with me. No way is there an equivalence between "Afghan soldiers" and US Marines!
Second, the episode says something about Leon Panetta, the current military brass and this administration. They really don't believe in the mission or the US Marines. Or they are gutless weasels. I tend to believe it's all three.
The Obama administration wants Netanyahu and Israel to believe the US "has their back," yet this administration is not even convinced US Marines have its back!
You know what, people? These leftist elitists are scared! They're scared of ordinary fly-over-country Americans. They're scared of the Tea Party. They're scared of the US Marines!
They're like the little man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz. They know they're all smoke and mirrors. They know they're out of their depth. They don't really believe in what they're doing at home or abroad.
They're little men scared shitless whistling in the dark. They're capable of anything. That's why they're so dangerous.

What can you expect, honestly? This guy (Panetta) is scared and he like his leader Obama are into graveling like mistreated dogs. But really how could he prostrate himself before Hamid Karzi the president of Afghanistan, which is currently ranked as the second most corrupt country in the world. Panetta should have spoke the real truth. Not when on incessantly like an over protective mom. Perhaps, he might have said, something like this is a real tragedy for both nations and the families of dead, injured and this soldier. That based on this solider's record there must be something more to the story. He is devoted husband and father and has served honorably and selflessly. This was the guy’s 4th deployment and I, Panetta, have only been here a couple days and I have almost wet and shit myself a hundred times. We are all weary from these wars and none have more of right to be weary than our military members and none are more deserving of our support and consideration. Especially, now. Obviously, this service member became distraught. He was not in his right mind otherwise he would not have behaved as he did. My heart goes out to everyone affected. Nothing can be gained by demonizing him. In fact, much will be lost including the truth. So let’s not jump to conclusions as that will solve nothing. We have to conduct a thorough investigation including exploring the health care system that did not detect his instability and the environmental circumstances like the Afghani police, interpreters, and military turning on their weapons on our service members.

Your comment about Panetta prostrating himself before Karzi is especially cogent. When the US gets involved in these types of undeclared wars with unclear goals and false premises, the entire country winds up prostrating itself before tin horns like Karzi.
The undeclared war fought by my generation was in Vietnam. The same thing happening in Afghanistan happened in Vietnam. No clear mission. No leadership with guts. We send our young men to sacrifice their strength and lives for purposes more political than moral. No wonder they crack under the pressure.
Now, as in Vietnam 40 or 50 years ago, the military is sacrificing all for a cause no one back in the States agrees with or supports. And we won't get out because politicians are interested in "saving face," -- the infamous "Peace with honor."
We lost all hope of peace with honor the moment we dispatched the most powerful military in the world to play politically correct footsy with pipsqueaks.
