About This Blog

Ludwig von Mises (1881-1973) was the greatest economist of my time. His greatest works can be accessed here at no charge.

Mises believed that property, freedom and peace are and should be the hallmarks of a satisfying and prosperous society. I agree. Mises proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the prospect for general and individual prosperity is maximized, indeed, is only possible, if the principle of private property reigns supreme. What's yours is yours. What's mine is mine. When the line between yours and mine is smudged, the door to conflict opens. Without freedom (individual liberty of action) the principle of private property is neutered and the free market, which is the child of property and freedom and the mother of prosperity and satisfaction, cannot exist. Peace is the goal of a prosperous and satisfying society of free individuals, not peace which is purchased by submission to the enemies of property and freedom, but peace which results from the unyielding defense of these principles against all who challenge them.

In this blog I measure American society against the metrics of property, freedom and peace.

Keep Stirring The Shit, Dirty Harry. Make My Day!!

Harry Reid, the thug in chief of the US Senate, is a "treacherous, miserable liar," "first-class rat" and "shit-stirrer." Everybody knows this. He's the worst scoundrel and parasite in Washington, and let me tell you folks that is feeding on the bottom of a very large and smelly barrel.

LD Jackson over at Political Realities has a couple of great articles reporting on Reid's mud-throwing. Yesterday, LD wrote about Reid's "campaign to smear Mitt Romney." In today's article LD laments how Reid's campaign "gets personal with attacks on Romney." Although these attacks are seedy and pathetic, they may just have a silver lining. Let me explain.

I have family in Wisconsin, so I followed the Scott Walker saga there very closely. Talk about smear campaigns and personal attacks! For almost two years, leftist and union thugs threw everything but the kitchen sink at Walker. They threatened his family and picketed his home. The politics were intense, personal, vicious and brutal.

A few weeks ago, after Walker's landslide victory in his recall election, I visited Wisconsin and questioned relatives about this onslaught of unionist and leftist political character assassination. My brother-in-law is a soft-spoken, mild-mannered businessman who reads "The Economist" magazine. Not exactly an Occupy Wall Street type. I asked him how the personal attacks sat with him:

"You know," he said, "at first they were amusing and then disgusting. But it got to me seriously just before the recall election. I have a 30-mile commute to work on the freeway and a group of protesters were crowded on an overpass with signs, dropping things onto the roadway. Traffic backed up for miles and made me late for work by about an hour.

"As I sat there in my car, stuck in traffic, I watched these occupiers disrupt my life and I read their disgusting, foolish signs. My blood began to boil. But I didn't do or say anything at the time. I filed that anger and disgust in the back of my mind and used it on election day.

"When I drove by the polling place to vote for Walker I saw a tremendous crowd of people lined up for blocks -- ordinary, everyday people standing there patiently waiting with determined looks on their face. Not casting my vote didn't even cross my mind. I parked my car and waited in line for almost two hours to cast my ballot for Walker.

"And all the while I was standing in line I was smiling inside, remembering those uncivil and rioting occupiers on the overpass who made me late for work. I had made up my mind that I was going to have the last laugh on them."

And that, folks, is what I took away from my visit back to Wisconsin. The only effect of the vicious and brutal antics of the unionists and leftists was to energize middle-class conservatives and independents, make them angry and determined to get even with their vote!

I'm getting that same feeling now in my own hometown and in my own state. Conservatives, independents and other ordinary Americans are not stupid, merely reserved and patient. They see the "shit" Reid is stirring. They hear Obama's insufferable rhetoric. They endure the personal insults heaped and hurled upon them by the likes of Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Bill Maher, Roseanne Barr and that moronic Hollywood crowd, acid-tongued Chris Matthews, Ed Schultz and their MSM buddies and Rep. Hank Johnson, Rep. Maxine Waters and other brain-dead Washington parasites. They sit back and stoically take it.

But you know what else they're doing? They're filing those disgusting insults away in the back of their mind, like my brother-in-law did in Wisconsin. They're storing them there til they need them in November, when their shit begins to fly in Reid's direction! These ordinary citizens will turn out in droves and vote the bastards out, no matter how long the lines or how long they'll have to wait.

If you have any doubts about what I'm saying and if you want a taste of the pent-up anger and determination in the hearts and minds of ordinary American citizens, then take a gander at this!!

Yes, your brother in law is a good representative of what is happening. Another proof is that photo of people patiently waiting in line to get a chicken sandwich at Chick-fil-A.

It is well said, Sherman.

Thanks, John. I was thinking about your post "How To Win A Close Election" when I was writing mine.

I commented at larry's place today that my sister and her noyfriend who are life long Democrats will not vote for Obama again. I'm thinking there are a lot of Democrats like my sister.

I saw your comment at his place. Let's hope it's a trend.

Thanks for the mention, Sherman. I am hoping beyond hope that what you have detailed is exactly what happens in November. The silent majority needs to make their voices heard in the best possible way, at the ballot box.

As I've said before, I have the same feelings of frustration and determination now that I had before the 1994 Congressional election when conservatives were accused of being "angry white men." We won that election handily, though Clinton cooped the credit for the reforms it initiated. Unless the Dems steal votes on an unprecedented scale, I am confident the 2012 Congressional election will go our way as well.
